This year, 70 years have passed since the antifascist victory of the peoples. This is a victory for which millions of people gave their lives in the battle against Nazism and fascism. The rise of fascism in a number of countries was not accidental. It was created by the ruling class and was aimed at the redistribution of wealth, and the consolidation of capitalism.

DON sees positively the election of Mustafa Akıncı in the leadership of the Turkish Cypriot community, a politician who over time identified his positions and action with the goal of liberation and reunification of Cyprus in the framework of a Bizonal, Bicommunal Federation. Furthermore, the fact that his election was supported by the most progressive part of the Turkish Cypriot community and especially the youth is an important element of hope.

The Central Council of EDON condemns the recent provocative US attack against Venezuela with sanctioning imposed to state officials of the country. These sanctions were imposed after the provocative statements made by US President. Barack Obama declared, on March 9^th by executive order, Venezuela as a "threat to national security".
