On the murder of students in Chile
The Central Council of EDON, strongly condemns the murder of two students in Chile. The 18th year old Exequiel Borbaran and the 24th year old Diego Guzman Farias, member of the Communist Youth of Chile, were shot on May 15thwhile they were hanging posters in the framework of a student mobilization in the city Valparaiso.
The murder of the two students is not a random event. Is a result of the efforts carried out by reactionary circles to curb the militancy of the student movement that struggle over many years, demanding public and free education. Demanding an end to the privatization of education and the abolishment of class barriers in education that were inherited by the dictatorship of Pinochet.
However, as emphasized by the Chilean Communist Youth, Chile of rights does not yet exist, violence and individualism exist as element of the system inherited by dictatorship and fascism works against those who dream of and fight for a different society.
As EDON, we express our support to the struggles of the organized student movement. We express our sincere condolences to the families and fellow students of murdered students. We stand next to the Communist Youth, expressing our full solidarity with the just struggle of the youth and the Chilean people.
