Statement on the replacement of the President of World Federation of Democratic Youth
The Executive Council of EDON, at a meeting held on Friday (10/10/2014), decided unanimously to proceed to the replacement of the President of the World Federation of Democratic Youth - WFDY. The position of Presidency of WFDY, held by EDON since November 2011 by Dimitris Palmyris, is assigned to Nicolas Papademetriou, member of the Central Council of EDON.
At the same time, the Executive Council also reaffirmed the need for unity and solidarity with the struggling people and youths of the countries affected today by the barbaric capitalist and imperialist aggression that is increasingly manifested today. With a sense of honor and responsibility towards organizations that have entrusted EDON with the presidency of WFDY for the first time in its history, EDON will continue to strive to further strengthen and shield WFDY as the main voice of the global anti-imperialist struggle of the youth.
Curriculum Vitae (C.V.) of Nicolas Papademetriou:
Nicolas Papademetriou comes from Aradippou, Larnaca District and he is 28 years old. He is a graduate of Law School of the University of Sunderland and holds a Masters Degree in Law in Human Rights. He was a member of Larnaca District Council of EDON (2006-2007) and member of the Local Committee of Democratic Progressive Movement of Cypriots Students in United Kingdom (2007-2010). Since 2012, he is a member of the Larnaca District Secretariat of EDON and Local Secretary of Aradippou Local Organization, while he is a member of Central Council of EDON since 2013 and a member of the International Relations Bureau of EDON. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Cypriots Student Union in United Kingdom (2009-2010), member of the Municipal Youth Council of Aradippou (2003 – 2005). In 2013, he represented Cyprus National Preparative Committee in the International Organizing Committee of the 18th World Festival of Youth and Students in Ecuador. He is a member of AKEL (Progressive Party of the Working People).
