On the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, EDON sends a message of militancy and unreserved solidarity to the struggling people of Palestine.
The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People was established by a resolution of the UN General Assembly in 1977 in order to give the Palestinian problem an international response. On 29 November 1947, the General Assembly adopted Resolution 181, which approves a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue.
Despite the UN resolutions and the outcry from hundreds of states, organizations and institutes, Israel, with the blessing of the United States, continues to violate international law and all notions of human rights and to remove the possibility of a solution by continuing its bloodshed, human rights violations, violence, and repression.
The Palestinian people are witnessing perhaps the longest continuous imperialist aggression in modern history. The countless political prisoners, the colonization, the blockade of Gaza, the atrocities by the Israeli army, the separation of the people with walls reminiscent of “apartheid” times, and the illegal persecution of Palestinians from their own homes cannot and must not be accepted by the international community.
The Cypriot people, as victims of invasion and occupation who have been struggling for almost half a century against the Turkish occupation and achieve the longed-for freedom and reunification, know very well what imperialism means. On the occasion of today's anniversary, we condemn in the strongest possible terms Israel's imperialist aggression and any plans by the USA, NATO and their allies to control the region in order to serve their own imperialist interests. At the same time, we call on the peoples of the region to struggle against all imperialist plans.
For EDON, it is clear that the whole situation is a plan to exterminate an entire people for the sole purpose of serving the interests of imperialism. We reaffirm that we remain on the side of the people of Palestine, who have been struggling for years for the right to life, the right to peace, freedom and independence. We know that achieving peace in the entire Eastern Mediterranean region is as much about finding a solution to the Palestinian problem as it is about finding a solution to the Cyprus problem.
